oh, to be a mom

At one point yesterday I had all three of my kids crying. And of course it is a night when Damon wasn't home. Noah was crying because life isn't fair. His parents get to go on an airplane in May. Adam gets to go to the zoo on a field trip and next Friday spend the whole day at school reading (in honor of Read Across America). He never gets to do anything fun and Adam gets to do everything. Adam was crying because he was so excited to play Wii. I wouldn't let him because it was 7pm and time to unwind, not get all hyper. He burst into tears. Well, honestly. They could have played Wii at 4pm instead, but they were outside playing with all the neighbors. (I really am a terrible mom). Lily was in tears because she missed her dad and because she wants a sister. The latter is almost a nightly thing now. She was so distraught Wednesday night because my tummy was never going to get big with a baby, her words, not mine. I just can't please anyone now a days. I will still try to love them.

mmmmmm.....

Nothing pulls at my heartstrings more than my man wielding a chain saw and cutting down trees. All he's missing is a flannel shirt (we got rid of all those when we left Oregon) and a beard.

I came home from the gym on Monday and found this.....

I didn't really want to have to deal with those trees until next year, but safety comes first so the trees got moved to the top of the list.

Damon manhandled the massive branch that fell down and now my backyard looks like this...

The rest of the trees are coming down next week. (sigh....)

A Royal Afternoon

When Lily was just 3 I promised her that when she was potty trained we would have lunch with the princesses. Well, she potty trained in about 2 days and it has taken me this long to make good on my promise. We finally made it to have lunch with the princesses and had a girls day at Disneyland as well. We invited the twins and Addie to join us and had a smashing good time. We arrived at the park around 10:30am and toured Sleeping Beauty's Castle. I thought it would be a big hit, but as we were exciting I heard Lily say to Addie, "I never want to go in there again". At one point I heard Addie give a scream of fright. Apparently it wasn't a big hit.

We managed to ride on King Arthur's Carousel, Small World and visited Pixie Hollow, where Tinker Bell hangs out. The park was super crowded. That's what we get for going on a Friday. We left Disneyland and headed over to California Adventure. It always seems to be less crowded.
We managed to make it in to Playhouse Disney right before it started. The girls enjoyed dancing and singing with their friends of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. We then went to Ariel's Grotto where the girls were star struck with all the Princesses that were out and about. Ariel greeted us as we were seated, Snow White, Aurora, Cinderella and Belle all waltzed by to our table and said hello.

After a 4 course meal, with a fabulous dessert plate, we managed to make it to Triton's Underwater Carousel (while Erika hit Screamin') and then headed over to Bugs Land for a quick ride on the Chew Chew train and Flick's Flyers. The girls were pretty much tired after that and we headed home.Lily was a great trooper. This was her first time going without her stroller (it was a big leap for me too). She never complained once and was very proud of herself by the end of the day. We all had a great time, but as I was putting Lily to bed she said, "Next time we go can the boys and Daddy come with us so we can all have fun?" I thought that was really sweet.

Valentine Date Fun!

We had our usual busy Saturday. First baseball, then ballet, then chores/yard work and then more baseball. We decided to include the kids in our Love Day date because we love them just as much. We headed down to La Jolla Cove to watch the sunset and big waves. The kids enjoyed it and so did we. Then we headed out to our favorite family place, Red Robin. We sat out on the patio and had the whole room to ourselves.

When we got home and put the kids to bed we had our Valentine dessert. We had heart shaped brownies with ice cream and hot fudge. Damon and I were both ill afterwards, but it was worth it. I didn't take pictures because I don't want to be judged.
Cupid was busy while we slept and heart attacked the kids doors as well as leaving a heart trail to the kitchen where the kids found their Valentine cards. They were so excited. It was so fun to hear while still laying in bed.

Happy Valentine's Day!!

Field Trip Thursday

We haven't had a field trip in quite some time because of all the illnesses that have been going around the house. So our first field trip in the new year had to be a good one. Plus it was extra special since the boys didn't have school the next day. I was feeling abit tired myself, but after a long hard chit chat (with myself) I decided to take the kids to DISNEYLAND!!

I picked them up an hour early from school. It was a half day and all they were doing that last hour was having Valentine parties. They didn't now where they were going yet. As we were leaving the school and right when the principal was walking by, Lily, who had just been told, screams, "We are going to Disneyland." I shush the excitement as the principal is looking at us and say, "You can't say that around the principal." He said back that he was jealous and to have a good time. That's just what we did.

It was a nice trip, sunny and not to crowded. We had a great time and I again have the title of "The Best Mom ever". Couldn't get better than that.
I also spent the week making sugar cookies for the kids and my piano students. YUM!

Valentine's fun

On Friday night we watched Lauren & Kate while their parents went out on a date. We had pizza, ice cream and made fun Valentine's crafts. The girls lost interest after a few minutes, but my boys, (all three of them) got really creative and started making their own creatures. So funny. We learned a new word this weekend courtesy of Blue's Clues. The word is Lovestastic. Use it in a sentence during the week of Valentine's day. So fun!!

Is it Enough

As a mom, I often ask myself, "I'm I doing enough for my kids?" By enough, I don't mean spoiling them rotten or indulging every whim. I mean, are they getting enough sleep, or they eating healthy enough, are the people they hang out with nice enough. Nothing makes me question my "enoughs" or feel like a complete failure than when I can't help them get better when they are sick. When everything seems to be going wrong and nothing I do can make it better makes me ask, "Am I really good enough for this?"

Things are better now. Even the Dr's can't fix viruses. It was a crazy one that went through the kids as well as Damon. It seems even worse when Adam's asthma is triggered. Nothing stresses me more and makes me feel inadequate than trying to take care of him and making sure he keeps breathing and his lungs don't shut down. That didn't happen either. Sometimes the copay at the Dr's is worth it for the peace of mind it brings. Illness is a very humbling experience.

My kids are worth every enough question I ask myself. I will continue to do enough for them. I may not be crafty, creative or have all the time in the world to give to them, but I will have enough.
